Life was simple when I was a kid

I took my kids to the park today. I watched them swing and do tricks like "no hands" and "eyes closed". I marveled at the joy of being a kid. I tried to remember the last time I did something that I wanted someone else to watch. Do I do anything like that as an adult? I couldn't think of anything.

How awesome is it to be a kid? When you get great joy in having your mom watch you jump from the top of the ladder. Or swing really high.

When do we outgrow this need for others to watch us? Or does it just take form as something else? I'm probably just having some strange "sleep deprived" philosophical moment that I will later read and wonder what was going through my mind. But I found myself just wishing for a few minutes of joyful bliss - having someone watch me swing.

I think maybe that's why we blog.

I'm watching you swing, and you look great up there.
